My career has taken many twists and turns, and after leaving technical college, I took on an apprenticeship in plumbing. I’ve always enjoyed this type of work and could turn my hand to most things. It was really great fun and although tough at times, it certainly was an eye opener.
I realised at the end of my apprenticeship that the South had more opportunity, so I looked for somewhere near the sea, as growing up in the Midlands I’d only seen it watching Miami Vice !
I quickly got a job as the building maintenance manager at a local hotel. It really helped me settle and introduced me to the ‘ glamour world ‘ of Hastings.
I met many varied people during my time there with different jobs and lifestyles. One of these offered me an interview at a local estate agents. I turned up for the interview to find out it was for a mortgage brokers job! It was a very interesting hour, and I got offered the job there and then. The fun then really started as they told me to pass all the exams and hurry up, so that’s what I did. I loved it!
It was so rewarding and those times taught me more about myself and people than any other thing I had ever done before in the shortest period of time
I realised that being a true Independent mortgage broker was what I wanted, looked around and joined 1 week before the man who would be by business partner for 30 years, ANDY BARRATT.
We were and still are very different but our ethos and integrity are completely aligned. Although not born in Hastings, it’s become my real home, and where my daughter and her daughter were born and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else, serving this great Seaside community.
